Understanding Sun Numbers

A sun number score lets you know how viable solar energy is for your home, based on a rating from 1 to 100. The rating is calculated using a variety of factors that impact the home’s potential to take advantage of the benefits of solar energy.

Determining Sun Number Scores

The roof slope or pitch, the direction the roof faces, the amount of sunlight it averages per day, your roof’s age and the material it’s made out of all impact the sun number. The rating also looks at the local area for electricity costs, weather patterns and installation costs associated with solar energy, all of which can raise or lower the rating. Altogether, these elements determine the sun number score, which indicates if solar is right for your home.
